The purpose of renrakuwaza is that you have to continue untill ippon. This is practise of continuous movement. You might miss target or at first do some kind of trick, but you have to continue till ippon. Renrakuwaza as we know them where not trained in the '20 of the previous century like we are used to now. Karate training consisted exclusively of kihon and kata. Kata resembles renrakuwaza the most, because it contains series of techniques. The transfer between kihon and kata to free application is a (too) big step, for - among other things - these reasons we practise renrakuwaza. The most important is that one should only stop when one has achieved his goal or when there is no need to continue. This can be after 1 or perhaps 5 connected actions. The obstacles one faces in training, are the same as one faces in life.
