Grandmaster Ohtsuka -The founder of WADO karate- is born on June 1st
1892 in Japan. In april 1898 he started training Jiu Jitsu. Ohtsuka
started to become very interested in Jiu Jitsu and in 1911 he started
a study of Jiu Jitsu and also visited many other Jiu Jitsu schools.
In 1921 he received his master title of Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jiu Jitsu
from master Nakayama. In 1034 he started training with a specific
karate group, know as the All Japan Karate Do Federation Wado Kai.
On the 29th of April in 1966 Ohtsuka inherited a high designation
from the emporer for his contribution to the developing and promotion
of karate. Ohtsuka only gave lessons to university students and dedicated
his whole life to WADO karate. Untill the last day of his life he
practised his system: WADO ryu. He was his own example that WADO can
be practised at old age. Grandmaster Ohtsuka passed away on january
1982 being almost 90 years old.
Ishikawa sensei met grandmaster Ohtsuka when he was 73 years old.
(in 1965 just before Ishikawa sensei moved to Europe).
In 1969 Ishikawa sensei was very honoured to give a WADO karate demonstration
with grandmaster Ohtsuka (now 77 years old!) in Paris. The grandmaster
also gave a seminar in Paris then. In June 1977 grandmaster Ohtsuka
came to Holland for a trainingsvisit, then 85 years old. Present were
